Hola! This entry will inform you all about the requirements, training process and what to expect if you become a volunteer as a reader for Rincon de Cuentos.
This program is open to anyone, parents, teachers, students, etc., however, it’s necessary that the volunteer be an intermediate Spanish speaker. You will be reading or performing stories written in Spanish. The volunteer need not be a student at Colorado State University, but if they are, it would mean they are in the 300 level classes.
The training process will start with a description of the program, and why we feel it is beneficial for this program to exist. Instructors will talk about the the numerous advantages of knowing two languages. Also, they will explain how it's important to stay true to one’s own identity and heritage, and how this program encourages that.
Then they will go over tips on how to deliver a great story to the kids. They talk about how the use of language, voice, creativity, and acting all are contributing factors in making a story great. Advice will be given on the best way to narrate some parts, and how to act out other parts.
Volunteers for Rincon de Cuentos are always satisfied with what they accomplish. They get to contribute to the childhood of the youth in Fort Collins, and enrich their lives and their culture. It is also an opportunity to improve your Spanish speaking skills, and get real-life practice. It is also a way to develop one’s abilities to speak in public. Most of all, it’s a lot of fun!
There are “story corners” all around Fort Collins. The consistent times are as follows:
Monday 4:30 at the House Club of Harmony Road Mobile Park
Sunday 4:00 Northside Aztlan- Program Vida Sana
First Monday of the month 4:30 Council Tree Library
